The villa belonged to the Medici family, and Cosimo, as the new Duke of Florence, decided he wanted to renovate the grounds. He planned an Italian garden complete with geometric patterns and commissioned Vasari to carry out the work. The centre of the garden contains the Fountain of Hercules and Anteus – a wonderful marble composition by sculptor, Bartholomew Ammannati. Visitors to this delightful park can see more stone sculptures of animals standing among the water features on the garden’s two lakes.
