The Palazzo Pitti was a large project that had been entrusted to the architect Brunelleschi by Luca Pitti in the mid 15th Century. It was in the Boboli hills in 1475 that construction was begun but was only completed by the 16th Century by the Medici who chose the palace as their home. The palace was enlarged and the Boboli hills were transformed into a garden. The state took possession in 1919 and was it opened to the public, putting on show the Royal apartments, the Palatine gallery, and the Silverware museum.
