The Palazzo Ducale was founded in the 14th Century as the city council of Genoa. It was restored by Tagliafichi between 1778 and 1783 who gave it the splendid neo-classical façade. The lower floor has a double galleried hall and visitors to the first floor will see the stunning chapel, decorated by G B Carlone. The upper floor also contains the Room of Two Councils, once the quarters of the city’s governing body. Today, the Palazzo Ducale is a cultural centre which houses among others, the Historical Archives of the City of Genoa and the Ligurian Society of National History.
