The Palazzo Doria Pamphili was built for Andrea Doria in the 16th century. Complete with its own private port and terraced garden, it was constructed outside the city walls. The museum still has the original pictures and furnishings; paintings by Perin del Vaga and sculptures by T Carlone and G A Montorsoli and the whole place is a masterful representation of 16th Century architecture. Visitors can see the frescoed ‘Gallery of the Heroes’, the ‘Zodiac Room’ and the magnificent ‘Gallery’, with rich tapestries of the Battle of Lepanto (1571).
