The Palazzo dell’Università was originally founded in 1634 as a Jesuit college, so still remains a seat of learning. It features a vista of stairways, galleries and hanging gardens and is an excellent example of geographic use of the hillside behind it. It is like the Palazzo Doria Tursi on the Via Garibaldi, designed on the work of the architect Bartolomeo Bianco. This grand Aula Magna is richly frescoed by G.A. Carlone and is a must-see for visitors. The church of S. Francesco Saverio is now used as the library.
