The Palazzo Comunale was built in the 13th Century and remodelled several times. It was altered after earthquake damage in 1832 and now has a neo-classical façade. The battlement tower, which was erected in the 15th Century, survived the 19th Century earthquake but was destroyed in the one of 1997. The palace is linked to Orfini, well-known because it was believed to be the home of the 15th Century printing house of Orfini – the earliest Italian printing house and the first to publish a work in Italian, Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ in 1472.
