Palazzo Belimbau was built between mid 16th century and mid 17th centuries, during the period of a so-called urban revolution. It was the patricians of Genoa, who had accumulated vast fortunes during the 16th Century that were responsible for commissioning the building. Francesco De Ferrari erected the building on the former site of one built by De Ferrari himself, joining it to another structure owned by Antoniotto Cattaneo and completed in 1611. Since that time Palazzo Belimbau has become one of the examples and symbols of pompous 16th Century architecture.
