The Palazzina Marfisa d’Este is an excellent example of a 16th Century top-notch residence. It was surrounded by beautiful gardens connecting it to other buildings known as ‘Casini di San Silvestro’. The building takes its name from Marfisa d’Este after she had inherited it from the man who built it, Francesco d’Este, who was the son of Duke Alfonso I and Lucrezia Borgia. Marfisa refused to leave the villa, even when her family moved to the city, and she stayed until her death.
