The Museo di San Marco is housed in an old Dominican monastery. The 15th Century monastery is well preserved and it’s possible to view the cells where Savonarola lived and where Cosimo the Old retired to meditate. The cells contain masterpieces such as the ‘Annunciation, the ‘Transfiguration’ and the ‘Crowning of the Virgin’. Other treasures include a 15th Century fresco of the Last supper by Ghirlandaio and Angelico’s altar frontal with Universal judgement and the Deposition. The library holds some beautifully drawn manuscripts.
