Museo Zoologico La Specola
Via Romana, 1 Florence 50125 - Italy

Map
The Museo Zoologico La Specola’s oldest displays comes from the Medici collections. The Medici during their lifetime collected many natural treasures like fossils, animals, minerals and exotic plants. Pietro Leopoldo of Lorena acquired the building and created the Natural History Museum complete with its own library. The museum is now more of a research institute and exhibits only a small example of its collections, like the taxidermy and anatomical wax works. The most important parts of this collection come from an exponent of Florentine wax working, Clemente Susini.
