The Museo del Bigallo in Florence is home to a museum which is laid out over three rooms. It has a small collection of paintings with a religious theme which were commissioned by the Compagnia della Misericordia and the Campagnia del Bigallo. As these organisations were charity-run orphanages, the main theme of the paintings depict the Madonna and Child. St Peter, the founder of the Misericordia, is also represented in the artwork. Of note is a painting by Bernardo Daddi dated 1342, of the ‘Madonna of the Misericordia’.
