The Museo Bardini building was built by an antiques dealer, Stefano Bardini at the end of the 19th Century. He left it to the city council in 1922, together with his large collection. These included sculptures, paintings, furniture, ceramics, tapestries, weapons, carpets, musical instruments, sarcophagi, tombstones, and funeral monuments. The museum looks quite unique because of its use of windows, doors and arches from redundant churches or ruined villas, and has Venetian and Tuscan wooden ceilings. The collection also has Roman sarcophagi, sculptures by Della Robbia and masterpieces from the artist Donatello.
