It was to Andrea Ceresola’s design that the Loggia dei Mercanti o di Banchi was built between 1589 and 1595 at the front of the Church of S.Pietro and represents the Genoa Renaissances. Made up of a single large rectangular room, edged by coupled columns and glass doors and originally a covered market on the site of S. Pietro in Banchi market. It is with pride that the Genoese remember that the first Italian Stock Exchange began its life in 1855, now sited at the Palazzo della Nuova Borsa in Piazza De Ferrari.
