The Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Reale in Genoa is housed in a 17th Century stately home. Designed by Stefano Balbi, it was enlarged by the Durazzo Family and became the property of the Savoy Kingdom in 1824. The enormous building has a splendid interior and a magnificent staircase, created to reach the aristocratic upper floor. All the rooms are fabulously decorated with frescoes, paintings and stuccoes and contain many original pieces of furniture and picture galleries. Visitors can also enjoy the 18th Century peaceful hanging gardens.
