The Galleria d’Arte Moderna has a collection of over 2000 works of art, which are sited on the second floor of the Palazzo Pitti. The Macchiaioli, a famous Tuscan group from the 19th Century is well represented. The subjects of the paintings were inspired by nature and everyday life and these are expressed through spots of colour and luminarist contrasts. At the forefront of this movement Giovanni Tattori who has many works exhibited, amongst which is the ‘Rotonda Palmieri’ and a wide range of landscapes and representations of Maremma life.
