The Forte Diamante is one of the most characteristics forts inside the defensive walls of the city of Genoa. It was constructed around 1758 at the summit of Monte Diamante about 667 metres above sea level. Because of its position overlooking the Val Polcevera and Val Bisagno and its distance from the city, it was the first line of defence for the city against raids. It is the most northern Genoese fortification and was fundamental in defence of the city by General Bertrand against the Austrian siege in 1800.
