This natural park lies over a flat, sandy coastal area characterised by wetlands situated behind a dune belt. The reserve has four priority habitats and four habitats of community interest with five species of reptiles and as many as twenty-four species of birds. The area is a breeding site as well as a staging post for rare and endangered species of the avifauna, so is an important place for the conservation of migratory birds crossing the Adriatic Sea. Numerous paths lead between the sand dunes to the sea and in summer months certain dune surfaces are used as car parks.
