If you follow the stepped street from the Piazza Grande, which is certainly one of the Gubbio’s most medieval lanes to the winding Via Ducal, at the top you’ll come upon the 14th Century Palazzo dei Canonici. This building houses the Diocesan Museum (Museo Diocesano). It contains a damaged 14th Century fresco of the Crucifixion and a beautiful 16th Century Flemish cope, superbly embroidered, and presented to the cathedral by Pope Marcellus II, who was a native of Gubbio.
