The Commenda di Pre was founded as a hospital about 1000 AD and used by crusaders on their return from the Holy Lands. It later became a place where pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem could take shelter. The structure has an open gallery on three levels and still retains some of its medieval characteristics. The wooden floor of the middle gallery is decorated with prints and the upper gallery has frescoes with battle insignia and coats of arms. This level was also the offices of the Knight Commander.
