The coast of Punta Pizzo has many different environments which form a fascinating natural mosaic of Mediterranean maquis, Mediterranean pseudo-steppes, wetlands and marshes. The wide range of environments account for the different plant species, from high and low Mediterranean maquis strawberry tree, Italian buckthorn, tree heath, thorny broom, Daphne and thorny asparagus to garrigue plants, rosemary, thymus, mastic, thorny broom and orchids, including the very rare Italian orchid and pot marigold. Wetlands like the Li Foggi channel and the surrounding marsh areas are home to the rare Ipomoea sagittata species.
