The architect Alberto Schiatti reconstructed the Church of San Paolo in its present form after the earthquake of 1570. It was formerly a convent and has two elegant cloisters that still stand alongside it. The frescoes and valuable paintings from over the centuries, above all the 16th Century and 17th Century, make this church a museum of late Renaissance Ferrarese artists. The list of masterpieces is endless, such as, The Descent of the Holy Spirit by Scarsellino, The Resurrection, and The Circumcision by Bastianino and The Birth of Saint John the Baptist by Scarsellino.
