The Church of S. Marco al Molo was built in a Romanesque style in 1173 and is situated on Via del Molo. It underwent reconstruction in the 16th -17th Century with the entrance being inverted; today the main entrance is through the apse. It has a sad feel because it is known as the ‘church of those condemned to death’. These poor souls came from the Casa del Boia to receive the last rights before taken to be hanged. The church was dedicated to Saint Mark to displease the Venetians because St. Mark is the patron saint of Venice.
