The Chiesa di S.Giorgio was erected on the site of an ancient salt market, next to the noble church of St Torpete. The first church was built in 964 AD and was dedicated to one of the patron saints of the city. The Teatini fathers rebuilt it in its present circular form at the end of the 17th Century. The Veronese hold the church very dear because it used to look after the city ensign that was carried into battle by the troops to spur them on.
