Giovanni Romei chose to build Casa Romei on the Via di San Francesco to show his high standing. He was an administrator to the Lords of Ferrara and married the Princess Polissena d’Este. Today it houses a fascinating museum of sculptures and paintings, with masterpieces that came from places now disappeared from Ferrara. In the Lapidary on the ground floor you’ll find marble and brickwork friezes, Sculptures and tombstones while on the upper floor there are many frescoes that have come from former churches.
