The Casa di Cristoforo Colombo is thought by some to be the house where the great seafarer spent his youth. It’s close to the Chiosro di S.Andrea and to the Porta Soprana o di S.Andrea but is, however, a 17th Century reconstruction after it and other homes and buildings in the area were bombed by the Roi Soleil around 1684. It is fascinating to think that this was the only dwelling left standing during the fascist era, when the whole Ponticello area was demolished and replaced by the current buildings.
