The Belvedere L. Montaldo is an elegant art nouveau tower some 80 metres above ground and can be found in the Castelletto area. It is said to be the most picture postcard view of Genoa. The Castelletto was demolished in the middle of the 20th Century, leaving the old ruin from which there are views over the rooftops, the bell tower, hanging gardens, the old port and the Lanterna. The easiest way to reach it is via a lift in Piazza Portale, described as the best route to heaven (verso il Paradiso) by the poet G. Caproni.
