Agrippa’s House is one of the most ancient places in the city. It was being renovated sometime in 1950 when an old tombstone bearing the name of Vipsiano Agrippa first Admiral of Emperor Augustus was found, hence the name. There are claims that it dates back to the 11th to 12th Century and that the present building was a much larger one. It was during the republic era that the area was renowned for executions in front of the church of San Marco. It is thought that the building was the home of the executioner.
