The Benedictine abbey of Saint Siro of Struppa (Abbazia di S.Siro di Struppa) is one of the most significant Genoan churches. Romanesque in style, it was built in 1025 by the Landolfo bishop. Renovations over the centuries have seen Baroque additions come and go and now the façade has been returned to its original design. The abbey has a prized campanile and semicircular apses, and inside is a 13th Century font, a 17th Century statue of San Siro and a wonderful 16th Century depiction of the saint with a dragon-like creature – which is said to be a symbol of heresy.
