According to Pliny the Younger the Villa dell’ Olmo, constructed during the 17th Century, was so called because the area in which it sits was a forest of Elm trees. It is thought that the earliest building on this site was erected during the 12th Century when the Umiliati Order built a monastery. The Viscontis owned the villa in the late 19th Century; they demolished a pair of side wings and restored it much to the original condition. As well as the villa, the formal gardens, lake and wooded parkland are also open to the public.
