The Villa Cicogna Mozzoni is a Lombard Renaissance residence, located in Bisuschio, around 8 km from Varese. It was erected between 1400 and 1500 by the Mozzoni family and used during the season for hunting bear and wild boars which were found in the surrounding woods. After the marriage of Angela Mozzoni to Giampiero Cicogna in 1580 the villa held a collection of precious paintings and frescoes, casement ceilings and Renaissance furniture. The 18-hectares garden has lawns, woods and Italian-style areas decorated with statues and water features. A 156-step stairway leads to the grotto, with splendid views of the gardens.
