Verrès Castle was commissioned by Ibleto di Challant in 1390 on the site of a former watch-tower. Count Renato di Challant added fortifications in 1536 and the stone walls of 2.50 metres thick have embrasures, double mullioned windows and a series of decorative patterns. In the courtyard is a reservoir to collect rain water. There is a particularly fine rampant arch staircase that extends over three storeys, carved stone coats of arms and vast fire-places.
