The Terme di S. Venera thermal baths in Acireale date back to 1873. They were built by the will of the Baron Agostino Pennisi di Floristella whose castle can still be seen behind the baths. The building is of an imposing neo-classical style. The baths consist of sulphurous water which is channelled from a spring south of Acireale, in the district of Reitana, some 3 km away. The remains of the Roman Spa of Santa Venera al Pozzo were discovered here and consisted of two barrel-vaulted rooms which are believed to have served as the Tepidarium and Calidarium.
