Stornara Reserve
Castellaneta, Taranto 74100 - Italy

Map

The Stornara Reserve in Castellaneta was established around 1877 to conserve and protect the coastal forest of Aleppo pines. This is a conifer species native to the Mediterranean region and can survive high temperatures and dry climates. The shrubs found in the forest give off a strong fragrant smell and the cicadas hidden among their stems sing relentlessly. The name ‘Stornara’ comes from the many ‘storni’ or as we know them ‘starlings’ that migrate to this reserve in winter and which is a fascinating sight to see.
