The statue of San Carlo Borromeo can be found in Arona on Lake Maggoire. It was designed by Giovanni Crespi Batiste and built between 1614 and 1697. It is some 76-foot high and made of copper sheets, though it was originally supposed to have been marble. The statue is hollow and visitors can climb up inside the view points which are in unexpected places on the statues anatomy, however on a hot summer’s day it is supposedly likened to being in an oven!
