The origins of the Sanctuary of S. Maria in Aula Regia dates back to the 10th Century. The Sanctuary you see today is from the 16th Century with a fabulous façade added at the end of the 19th Century that acts as a backdrop to the long straight Via Mazzini. Inside is a beautiful sculpture of the Virgin Mary created sometime between the 1400s and 1500s. There is also a remarkable wooden Baroque Crucifix by Filippo Porri and the painting The Decollation of The Baptist by Carlo Bononi.
