The Jesuits consecrated the church of San Michele in the city of Cagliari in 1738. It is a highly decorative building and is one of Sardinia’s most opulent examples of Baroque. The fabulous façade gives you an idea of the magnificence of the interior. It is richly frescoed and painted and has some sumptuous marble, and is topped by a frescoed cupola. The church is said to have been visited by Charles V before setting out on his expedition against Tunis in 1535.
