The 13th Century church of San Francesco can be located along Via D Albizzini. The interior is 18th Century and contains some noteworthy art work. The elaborate Cappella Vitelli and painted altarpiece were both designed by Vasari and even more impressive is the elaborate wrought iron grille made by a local craftsman, Pietro di Ercolano. Raphael’s early masterpiece, the ‘Betrothal of the Virgin’ (1504), was painted for this church, but Napoleon took it to put in the Brera, and Citta di Castello is left with a copy.
