Designed by Giovanni Capula, the Pisan tower has dominated the Cagliari skyline since 1305. The main tower is very similar to the Elephant Tower, which is sited at one end of the castle, built by Pisani in 1217 on the hill of San Michele. Around 1328, the Aragonese closed it to use the tower as a residence and warehouse and in the 19th Century it was used as a prison for political prisoners. From the tower you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city, from the harbour to the Sella del Diavolo, on the Poetto waterfront.
