S. Girolamo della Certosa is an ancient monastic centre which derives from the Carthusian Order which settled here in 1333. The church was consecrated in 1359 and a bell tower was added at the beginning of the 17th Century to the original small belfry. Inside are some artworks of note including paintings by the masters of the Bolognese School, and a precious wooden choir, dated 1539, inlayed by Biagio de’ Marchi. Within the cloister of the chapel are holy images moved here at the end of the 18th Century from several Bologna churches hit by Napoleonic suppression.
