The Museo dei Fuochi is an unusual concept telling the story of the eel-pickling factory at Comacchio which reopened its doors to introduce a piece of the delta’s history. After restorations to return it to its former splendour, it celebrates a past considered too important to be forgotten. The Museo dei Fuochi, with its twelve functioning chimneys, tells of the history of the eel as an eating delicacy. There is ancient machinery, and the barrels have been restored to recreate a fascinating storyline of an area linked with legends and truths.
