The magnificent Piazza San Fedele is surrounded by houses which are supported by pillars dating back nearly 400 years. This cobbled square was formerly the corn square, and is now a popular area for enjoying a cup of coffee beneath the shade of the pillars. The Maestri Comachi - literally the Master of Como - created the Piazza. These were a corporation of architects, decorators and stonemasons renowned for their work all over Europe as far as Poland and Russia.
