The Piazza Silvestri is one of the most completely medieval squares in Umbria with several important buildings facing onto it. One of these is the Palazzo dei Consoli which dates from 1270. It has a double-naved cross-vaulted open hall and beautiful Gothic arches, with the front having two rows of windows. A side stairway leads to the great hall at the first floor, and inside is the beautiful Teatro Francesco Torti, restored for the centenary. There’s a fountain in front of the palazzo in a 14th Century style though built in 1889.
