The Palazzo Comunale, or town hall, shares the same square as the cathedral, which was common practise in a medieval town. This 14th Century building was designed and built by Angelo da Orvieto and shows a similar use of the rusticated stone style as that of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. In front of the palazzo stands the Torre Civica, also 14th Century and once called ‘del Vescovo’ (the bishop’s) because it stood next to the bishop’s palace. From the top of the tower there are good views over the town and surrounding countryside.
