The Palazzo Comunale building is likely to date back to the domination of Pisa in the 13th Century. This is known because of a document in which the Palazzo is named from 1331. The city passed to the Savoy family in 1720 and the palace was completely renovated in 1787 adding a late-Baroque Piedmont style. The palace was home to the Town Hall until 1906 and had wonderful 16th Century paintings that decorated the rooms; these were transferred to the new town hall.
