The Palazzo Capitano del Popolo was built between 1212 and 1305 and was the first of the public buildings to be erected on Piazza del Comune. It was restored in 1927, and this altered the appearance of the original building. Look on the façade and you’ll see the measures for silk, linen, and wool. A fresco depicting the cycle of the life of St Francis shows the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo minus the upper part of its tower, which wasn’t added until 1305.
