Bologna’s Picture Gallery was started in 1796. It has mainly paintings by artists from Bologna, dating back from between the 14th and the 18th Century. Some works from the schools of Ferrara and Venice are here too such as examples by Cima da Congliano, Tintoretto and Vivarini. Painters like Giotto, Parmigianino, Perugino and Raphael are also represented in the gallery. Among the must-see pieces are the ‘Madonna with Saints’ by Francesco del Cossa, and ‘St Cecilia’, a masterpiece by Raphael.
