The Museo Marinaro holds a large collection of ex-voto model ships, with the majority dating to the 18th Century. These form an important record of both evolving nautical styles and maritime arts. Here are shelves full of silver galleons, clippers, steamers, warships, Arab dhows and assorted fishing boats. They depict many different nationalities such as; French, American and British warships, including the ‘Ark Royal’ and a couple of ‘Cutty Sark’s’. There are also some 18th and 19th Century works of art depicting dramatic shipwrecks, many signed with VFGA ‘Votum Feci Gratiam Abui’ meaning ‘I made a pledge and received grace’.
