The Governor’s Palace is also known as the Palace of Justice or Palace of the Clock and was built in 1502. It looks onto the square named after Il Guercino. When Ferrara became part of the State of the Church after 1598, it was the seat of the Papal Legates. Francesco Girardini who added the Torre dell’Orologio, later extended the palazzo. In 1803 the shops on the ground floor were opened and the arcaded gallery to the south was closed. On the façade, visitors can see several epigraphs depicting the most interesting historical events of Cento.
