The Duomo in Brindisi was originally built in Romanesque style with an external apse, and dates to between 1089 and 1132. After an earthquake in 1746 there was much reworking. The bell tower is Baroque and was added in 1780. The building has a Latin cross plan with nave and two aisles and there are some fine paintings by Oronzo Tiso. Renovation work between 1957 and 1968 uncovered precious mosaic-art finds on the 1178 floor, with characteristic zoomorphic patterns believed to be associated with lost Carolingian-cycle scenes.
