The Duomo in Acireale is dedicated to SS. Annunziata and Venera. This beautiful building has a two-colour neo-gothic façade. It was designed by Giovan Battista Filippo Basile (1825-1891), who also designed the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. There are two belfries with majolica spires and the front is decorated with a lovely doorway that dates back to the 17th Century. The interior has interesting frescoes by Vasta which can be seen between the transept and the chancel. On the floor in the transept is a 19th Century sundial by Sertorius and Peters.
